The meals are served by the host, who usually is the lady of the house, but sometimes it is possible for the members of the family to help themselves.
Table manners In Romania:
It is polite to wait until all the guests are gathered around the table before starting to eat. It is considered bad manners to say something while you are chewing the food. However, Romanians talk a lot during the meal. It is impolite to leave the table before everybody has finished the meal. It is also impolite to smoke while the other people are serving the meal or still eating.
At the end of the meal people usually thank the host for it and congratulate the host for such a wonderful meal, even if you haven't enjoyed the meal, it still would be polite to thank the host as they have gone to a lot of trouble preparing it probably in your honor as the guest of the house.
Traditional customs In Romania:
There are two traditional holidays, where all the members of the family gather, Christmas and Easter. At Christmas, people usually eat pork and in Easter, people usually eat lamb. Traditional food and drinks consist usually of two main courses and a desert. The traditional second course is meatballs in cabbage.
The desert is usually ice-cream or cake. Romanian adults drink wine and plum brandy, known locally as Tuica, which is the traditional alcoholic drink. At the end of the meal Romanians, occasionally drink coffee. Usually, children in Romania drink juices. Restaurants are popular In Romania and people who spend a lot of time working, sometimes have lunch or dinner at a restaurant, with their family or friends. Such an evening spent at a restaurant can be very pleasant after a day of hard work.
